  Romney Disapproves

  i found a plain picture of Bert and Ernie in a coloring book and posted it with the caption “Romney Disapproves” as a small, humorous protest against Romney’s anti-PBS policies. i later realized it was a bit of a double-entendre considering many people think of these two as lovers and well, we all know how Romney feels about the gay community.

  my first time painting her on canvas. i based the portrait on a photograph of her from 1952, but i changed the setting to the Los Angeles river, with the viaducts in the background, making this painting an homage to several timeless LA icons. 
  done in acrylic paint and paint marker, on 16 x 20 canvas.
